6/10 Okay
"A great base to explore the peninsula. The Spa was excellent, we booked an amazing treatment each and got free caps for the pool. Lovely view at breakfast even though we were there at end of January and cloudy sky. Breakfast was just okay, self service and basic. The bar area is fun and good range of evening food. The Saturday wedding crowd really took over most communal spaces. We were unimpressed with our room, no air con which is fine for most people at that time of year. No mini fridge. No guest slippers. No working extractor fan in bathroom, and needed a good scrub between tiles."
"Decided to stay here on our trip around Ireland and let me tell you, this was one of our favorite stays in the two weeks we’ve been here (and we stayed in some pretty fabulous places). The grounds and rooms are fantastic. We were greeted warmly by the staff upon arrival. Shea took our bags straight to our room as we checked in. The smell of peat burning in the Red Room fireplace smelled heavenly. We were going to upgrade to a garden suite, but our superior king bedroom was exactly what we wanted: space to sprawl out, comfortable bed with a sitting area, walk-in closet with plenty of of space for luggage, a HUGE bathroom with soaking tub, toilet closet, huge shower, heated towel rack, and to our surprise, heated tiles. If you get cold in this bathroom, you have issues. I loved the two bay windows that fully open to allow in the fresh air and the French doors that open to the garden and spa/pool area. I highly recommend giving that area a try. I booked a facial and enjoyed the sauna, hot tub, and recovery area while my husband worked out in the gym. It was a great way to spend the afternoon after a lovely breakfast. That’s another thing…their breakfast is so good!!! It came complimentary with our room and offered a huge buffet or an à la cart menu. My husband had chef-prepared omelets from the buffet and I ate the Eggs Benedict from the menu both days. On one of the days, we took tea in the Red Room while we enjoyed the fireplace. 110% will be coming back!"
"The hotel is excellent. The room was very comfortable and allowed me to relax. The food at breakfast and dinner was excellent.
The setting looking to the sea is superb, watching the waves roll in, just brilliant.
The only downside is the parking can be tricky, due to the number of cars."
"Our stay was excellent in every way! The room was spacious and clean, the shower was very good with excellent temperature and pressure. The food was crazy good, the fish tacos were incredibly flavourful as was all the food. The hotel location was right for us being central to some nice hikes and scenery."
"Hotel Location is great. Easy to find just off the high street in Ballybofey. There’s a small car park out front but also a massive overflow car park with cctv around the back. Free to park.
Lovely staff at the hotel. They sorted an extra night stay for us without issue and even price matched to a cheaper price from their website.
Room was ideal for us 2 adults and 2 kids. Double bed and 2 singles. There’s no aircon which is a shame and the hotel is very hot, a fan is supplied which helped however. Bathroom was ok, floor tiles a little loose but not dangerous, and toilet roll holder in a weird position behind your elbow. Shower was the only real downside as it was very low on pressure.
Breakfast was great. Hot buffet with the obvious stuff, sausage, bacon, egg, white/black pudding, mushrooms, beans, tomatoes, and sundries including cereals and pastries. Big pots of tea and coffee served to your table too.
Bars and restaurants all nice. Food there was great. Kids ate each meal as did we. No complaints with any of it and very reasonably priced.
Surrounding area is lovely - a great series of walks by the river, some lovely little cafe/bars on the high street and good mainstream shops if you need supplies (Aldi/Lidl 5 min walk)"
"The clients obviously enjoyed the birds feeding on the piers at the lake, but the staff should know not to feed them bread. Seeds and mealworms would be better. "
