Lake Chūzenji
4.4/5 (316 reviews)
Japan's highest natural lake reflects Mount Nantai in its crystal-clear waters, framed by forests that burst into fiery colors each autumn. Take a sightseeing boat cruise for the most spectacular mountain panoramas.
Ornate carvings adorn buildings in this UNESCO shrine, including the famous "Three Wise Monkeys" and intricate Yomeimon Gate. Visit in spring to see cherry blossoms frame shogun Tokugawa Ieyasu's resting place.
Step back in time at Edo Wonderland, where actors in period costumes bring Japan's feudal era to life. Try your hand at samurai sword techniques or watch ninja performances in this meticulously recreated Edo-period town.
Walk among 102 famous buildings from around the world, all perfectly recreated at 1/25 scale. The outdoor museum showcases 46 UNESCO sites across six themed zones with incredible miniature details.
This vermilion arch spans the Daiya River as a sacred gateway to Nikko's temples, once reserved for shoguns. Visit during autumn when fiery foliage creates a stunning backdrop for your photos.
Plunging 97 meters from Lake Chuzenji, Kegon Falls ranks among Japan's three most beautiful waterfalls. Take the elevator to the lower observatory for a dramatic close-up of the thundering cascade.
Soak in milky-white, sulfur-rich hot springs discovered by a Buddhist monk 1,200 years ago. The therapeutic waters are renowned for skin beautification and healing properties in a serene forest setting.
Gentle slopes and wide runs make Nikko Yumoto-Onsen Ski Park perfect for beginners and families. After hitting the snow, soak your muscles in the nearby hot springs for the ultimate Japanese winter experience.
Ancient temples hide among misty forests where carved dragons seem ready to spring to life at any moment. Tokugawa Ieyasu's magnificent mausoleum at Nikkō Tōshō-gū shrine dazzles with gold leaf and intricate details that craftsmen spent decades perfecting. The Japanese saying goes "Never say 'magnificent' until you've seen Nikkō" – and they're not exaggerating. After temple-hopping, soak weary muscles in steaming onsen with mountain views that change dramatically with the seasons. Sample delicate yuba (tofu skin) at traditional ryokans where hospitality remains unchanged for centuries. For family fun, Edo Wonderland recreates feudal Japan with samurai performances and ninja demonstrations. In winter, nearby ski resorts offer powder without Tokyo crowds.
"I have only positive things to say about this place! I truly enjoyed my stay.
The bed was super comfortable, the room was great, and the social areas provided a nice space to eat or work while mingling with others.
The staff could not have been better — helpful and responsive.
I really enjoyed my stay. The only area I would suggest for improvement is the food offering. While practical and tasty, I’m not really a microwavable kind of person… fresh products would have been great.
Anyhow, thanks again!"
"Everything went smoothly. Only one annoying check-in process, asking for date of birth, where you come from, and where you would be heading to, as a must information for check in. "
"Room little dated but extremely spacious, and very clean. Only comment is lack of USB port. Buffet was adequate but missing the ‘wow’ factor. Property was little far from train station, I think it would be much convenient if the shuttle will bring guess back to hotel instead of just one way to the train station."
