Hillside hotel was not a great stay. Our room smelled stale and like old smoke, I think maybe it was ingrained in the wood paneling. Our room was not like the photos (definitely not fully remodeled) or luxurious. The bathroom had new fixtures and vanity but the tub was still old and kind of grimy. The window screen in the bathroom was ancient and hard to open and there were some sort of seeds or insect eggs all over the windowsill there. The size of the room was fine (only room for 1 small table, no chairs) but there was no additional deadbolt or slide latch on the door and that didn’t feel safe, especially after someone tried to put a code into our door at about 11:00 one night. This motel is somewhat cute, cozy and quiet but still seems a bit run down. However, after driving around Luray, I’d venture to say it’s the nicest of the roadside motels we saw. It has beautiful views of the Shenandoah’s and it’s very convenient to town and the park. It wasn’t horrible but wasn’t what we expected. The manager Judy was very nice when she called to confirm our reservation and when I let her know the room smelled smoky. Be aware that not all rooms look like the photo on the website.

It was nice to have multiple beds. Room comfortable. However, exterior door was not positioned correctly or missing trim, as you could see the sun and hear outside noise and feel air coming into room.

Staff member very friendly. However, our room was not clean. Hair in multiple locations (floor, bed, bathroom), floor dirty and uneven, sink needed thorough cleaning. Walls very thin and could hear conversations of people in rooms next to us. Was an uncomfortable stay. Would not stay again.

The bathtub didn’t have a stopper that held water well, but I was still able to enjoy a nice bath. The property itself wasn’t fancy, but that’s understandable since it’s a small mountain town. Overall, it met my needs and suited the moment.

We had an outstanding stay for a night while visiting Shenandoah NP. The super clean amenities were great and everything was as described on the website. I did not get to meet any staff because the office was closed, but they were very helpful on the email and text messages before I checked in to make sure that check-in was smooth.

The Hillside was sufficient for our needs. It's a no frills place but one of the more convenient options for our visit to Shenandoah. Noise was a bit of an issue - the beds were creaky, and we were awoken by noisy children and adult conversations next door, so not much in terms of insulation. It was clean though and has some nice outside seating options to enjoy in nicer weather.

It wasn’t the fault of Hillside and Judy did a great job with updates but when we arrived at 8:30 pm that was no power. We used a flashlight in our car but was have with kids. Toilet paper rack was off and needs repair. We only had 2 towels for 4 people all weekend. Also the room needs a deep cleaning- baseboards in all rooms were dirty, behind stand up mirror filthy, tub had sand in bottom, floors were gritty. I made the kids shower because the tub was too dirty to use. Decor was nice and Judy was kind but I don’t think we would stay there again. Beds are VERY hard. Kids slept fine but both my husband and I thought it was 2 rough nights of sleep. We are used to 4-5 star hotels so maybe we are being too picky?! We ran out of toilet paper as well and used tissues. Judy said we would get 10% discount back from power outage. It’s appreciated. Thank you

I found this place cozy. The furniture is in good condition and parking was super-easy. We particularly enjoyed the bonfire at night where we made s'mores. It was a wonderful experience overall. Communication with the hotel was very fast and reliable.
