Sukhumvit Street Market highlights

Open from around 6 pm to midnight, you’ll find that Sukhumvit Street Market is at its busiest around 9 pm, with the stalls doing a bustling trade. As it’s in Downtown Bangkok, it’s not difficult to get to, or from, especially if you’re staying nearby.

The stalls are covered in colorful merchandise, from bags that might not be entirely authentic, to phone covers, clothing, and accessories. They make for excellent souvenirs or gifts, and they’re reasonably priced. There are also plenty of food stalls selling truly authentic Thai food, and as it’s right around dinner time, there’s no reason not to follow those delicious scents to the stall of your choice and grab something to fill you up. The meals are easy to eat on the go, including classics like satay chicken skewers, and spring rolls, as well as many, many different types of noodles. The only real difficulty is narrowing down your options.

There’s also an opportunity to participate more fully in local life by playing games with locals as you sip on a beer at one of the local bars. Alternatively, relax with a visit to one of the massage parlors on the street.

Things to know about Sukhumvit Street Market

To get to Sukhumvit Street Market, if you’re not close enough to walk, you can get off at Skytrain station Nana or Asok, as the market lies between them. It’s just 5 minutes’ walk from either direction.

Be aware of the crowds, as this is a popular market. At its busiest the street is full of locals and tourists, perusing the items for sale, chatting, and sharing food. The even-numbered side is wider, so the crowds are less dense there. As in all such places, these crowds come with the potential of pickpockets, so be aware of your surroundings and take precautions to avoid problems as much as you can.
