The room was very clean apart from dusty shelf's in wardrobe discovered that when putting clothes on shelf after taking out to use.staff excellent,food excellent. We have been staying at this hotel on and off for 24 years and will certainly be going back.parking was good and the sun was shining too.

Staff work very hard, busy but are very friendly. Bar man especially friendly and upbeat.. remembered previous guests, didn’t catch his name but had a beard. Stayed her several times over the years and although this establishment has been taken over standards haven’t dropped. Good meals and spotlessly clean. As said before stayed several times from suites and double rooms with friends .. however on this occasion just quick overnight and we stayed in the compact double.. adequate but small (as advertised) and wouldn’t of liked to do more then one night in there , in hindsight could of asked if I could of payed for upgrade as I believe other rooms available. Lovely night so no complaints and will be back .

Breakfast was an issue, no lactose free milk or yoghurt etc, (one person was lactose intolerant so limited choices at breakfast), bacon was hard due to being not freshly cooked, manager has been informed of these issues.

We arrived late and it was raining! Was not paying attention and did not see the sign for the entrance of the hotel. The reason for staying was that we booked a trip on the flying Scotsman (first trip) Would have liked to explore the area a bit more.
