Derby Mickleover Hotel has wonderful friendly, helpful and professional staff who offer a warm welcome and constant, friendly enthusiasm to enable one's stay to be a good experience. However their refreshing professionalism and warm manner, is marred by a hotel that has seen grander times. Everywhere, the hotel is looking a bit tired and is in definite need of some investment to its interior and facilities. I have stayed here frequently due to its location, convenience and lovely staff but these professionals deserve a hotel that is current in its fresh interiors and facilities. I have had to call for house keeping or maintenance to assist in rooms I have been booked into, due to malfunctioning facilities or because I have found unacceptable large areas of black mould growing on bathroom ceilings for example. I have stayed in a lot of this hotel's rooms and in all price ranges. It is disappointing to see and stay at such a hotel with enormous potential; when a lick of fresh paint or replacement of tired facilities or a more rigorous upkeep of rooms with investment, enabling staff to not only perform day to day house keeping but more deep cleaning. Proper investment to provide updating and thorough maintenance of the wider hotel picture and infrastructure, would once again allow this hotel to shine as a luxury hotel if character. Come on Best Western!

Pool was good, not the cleanest or best maintained but still ok to use. Steam room great, sauna was not working at full temperature which we were told. Hotel is dated and in need of some refurbishment. Breakfast was worth the money because we added it to the original booking- was twice the price if we’d paid on arrival.

Really large and spacious rooms which were lovely and clean. Breakfast was well stocked and had plenty of choice. All of the staff were really lovely to talk to and couldnt do more to help. The spa facilities were very good and the pool is a good size with a specific area for children. The only thing I would say is the changing rooms need a little TLC especially with the paintwork above the showers; no proper ventilation so mould is starting to show. Overall though the hotel very much exceeded expectation and would happily return.

Pros: Hotel staff friendly and helpful. Short walking distance to Mickleover centre with a wide range of restaurants, pubs/bars.Good breakfast selection. Cons: Hotel appears outdated, especially the rooms. The first room I was given (308) had a sliding door to the balcony with a gap letting cold air through and offered no sound proofing to the busy A516. This room was happily exchanged for another (307) but again the balcony door offered no sound proofing or heat retention despite closing properly. Poor mattress as you could feel the springs. Review would have been 2* if it wasn't for the friendly staff.

Close to some lovely shops and a very friendly community centre with a cafe. Used the pool and jacuzzi which was nice after being on the road. Room large and comfortable with a comfy bed. Carpet a bit threadbare the only let down. Had a good nights sleep and a good choice at breakfast

We weren't advised there was a pool, so we didn't get to use it. Staff were all lovely, especially receptionist who booked us in. But the second lift being out of order meant we had to wait for the lift when checking out. There was a chair in our room [118] that needed joints gluing and could have collapsed, and somewhere in the bathroom is leaking damp, resulting in a few harmless fruit flies and damagedbath panel and skirting.
